Actors

To play the role of the frantic mother we chose Grace. She’s close to the young girl, so she would be comfterable when filming.

Playing the little girl, we chose my partner Grace’s niece. She was perfect for the role of a harmless girl. We brought her to the playground and bribed her with ice-cream to be apart of this film.

The kidnapper was played by Sawyers dad. This helped a lot to keep the little girl calm and in one of the scenes Sawyer walked right up to her dad which we used this as she walking up to her kidnapper.

Some considerations we had to take with scheduling was having to have Sawyers father there while we film. This wasn’t too hard because he took the week off of work so he was free for filming. Another good thing was me and grace both getting out of school before two pm. The day of filming my partner had a college class though so we had to use the small timeframe we were both off to film.

Bump In The Road

With the main actor (little girl) we had to get permission from her parents and at first they didn’t approve. Her mother allowed us to film with the presence of her father and we couldn’t use her real name in the film. So from now on, the little will be introduced as Sawyer.

Location

Me and my partner Grace, decided to film our project at a public park. Many incidents of kidnappings in real life happen at the neighborhood park. During our opening clip, your left assuming the little girl was kidnapped. With strangers walking around and other kids playing, it gives that real life effect.

We didn’t want to scare the strangers at the park and make them believe the kidnapping was real, so we didn’t shoot Sawyer being taken. We let the audience assume she was, so we stopped filming right before that clip.

Exhibition

Many films get more publicity when being streamed on different platforms than just theaters. Streaming sites like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon prime etc. People pay extra to enjoy the movie in their home, rather than put effort in to going to a theater.

Non cinematic films get attention but being broadcasted on each site and over social media. Even some movies out of the theater get put onto the sites for further viewings. For example, the movie “To all the boys I’ve loved” is a popular teen drama that isn’t in theaters but is watched by many.

Distribution

The film ‘Gone Girl’ was distributed by many different media platforms. The company ‘Twentieth Century Fox’ being the most beneficial platform. This movie was related to a book and led to bestseller status. There were early on oscar awards waiting for this film before the film was even produced.

This film was also based around a powerful woman. After the kidnapping and husband cheating she learned to not let anyone push her around. Crime films are big hits in general and having the ‘Law and Order’ effect really set the tone. The ending is left for debate, leaving the audience with different views.

Similar Production Companies

Through all the thriller movies, the film “Nightclawer” stuck out to me. This movie was released in 2014 and directed by Dan Gilroy. A well known company that kept popping up was Blumehouse. This company was the one used by the movie “get out”, explained in my case study. Me and my partner decided WWE was the best production company to use for our film “The Vanished”.

My partner and I agreed to use a bigger company to produce our film, since their more known and have more viewers. The overall quality would be better and more money would be collected at the end of the day. The audience would most likely be attracted to a well known company rather than one they’ve never heard of. My partner and I decided to write a letter explaining our film to WWE to convince their company to produce our film. To have the best results, we would but our best effort in and try our best to fix the corrections we’d receive.

Case Study

‘Get Out’ Daniel Kaluuya

I began my case Study on the 2017 film “Get Out” directed by Jordan Peele. Being a thriller movie, it can compare to me and my partners film “The Vanished”. They both have a trapped feel, which raises the heart rate of the audience. “Get Out” is about a black male that goes to visit his white girlfriends family. There’s a major plot twist that deals with racism and takes the film for a spiral of emotions.

INTENDED AUDIENCE: The target audience for the Film Get Out, is millennial’s. This is projected in a part of the film where Chris’s humanity was taken in a way. This raises the eyes of open-minded ‘college students’ as well. The age group of college students are very involved in the topic of racism and during this film, race is a prominant topic.

DISTRIBUTION: The film was distributed by Blumhouse. A company that bought 6 times the production cost during the opening weekend. The reviews rushed in and almost all of the audience enjoyed the film.

MARKETING: This film was announced over television, radio stations, theator commercials, and even billboards. Cinemas helped distribute the opening weekend by advertising before related films.

PRODUCTION: During the production of “Get Out”, the director Jordan Peele According to the industry tracker box office mojo, the opening weekend had a gross sale of 30.5 million.

Financing

From past research I’ve noticed, to produce a movie it costs around 50,000 dollars. To film our opening scene we used an Iphone 11 Pro Max, which costs around 800. We needed transportation around Dade City, so gas costs around 30 dollars. With everything comes tax, most provinces take 15% of money collected for labor, production costs, and ‘soft-money’. Most production companies have a range of 16 – 64 million dollars in savings. The film directed by Paul Feig ” A Simple Favor” had a gross of 97.6 million compared to a budget of 20 million, so everything can vary. Ticket sales is a huge resources for collecting money for these films. The audience of these films are usually 28 and older, which is a wide range that loves going to the cinema.

Mission Statement

The mission statement of our film is to always watch your children in public areas. Everything happens so fast and in one second, your life could change. A mother bringing her child to the park carelessly looking down at her phone, changed into trying to find her missing daughter. To fully understand our message we plan on using real life problems to show what could happen if your child gets kidnapped. My partner and I want to show the dangers of the ‘real world’ and how many ugly people are out there. After watching the clip, we hope everyone is more aware and more protective.

Script

After researching how to create a screenplay I learned you should write an outline of every screen before actually writing it. You should also keep in mind to write a marketable screenplay. Most screen plays don’t get turned into movies and only a few hundred are are purchased. Your script must begin with a plot and lead the characters on an adventure, while keeping in mind that you want to have peoples attention.
